What the hell is going on with these new operating system prices?
Just what the hell is going on with the new operating system prices???
Are we at last seeing a bit of common sensefrom the software vendors? Have they finally realised that we are in a recession and that we can’t all afford to fork our two or three hundred quid every time they try and make something a bit better then the last OS?
Common sense has prevailed as far as I’m concerned. I know that Windows 7 will be more expensive come launch time, but at least Microsoft are making an effort with some cheaper pre-order prices that we can afford, lets hope it doesn’t turn out to be another Vista!!!
As for Apple, it’s about time they realised that no one considers their operating systems to be “new” and that the last 3 releases have been upgrades. I think that the Snow Leopard price structure is sensible, I also think that the next release from Apple really needs to be a completely NEW operating system, otherwise they are in danger of getting left behind. Leopard is great but even an Apple OS can start to age .
The IT Support London based company that I work for have already received over 200 requests from clients for their networks to be upgraded to Windows 7 after the launch date. Most of these clients have asked for the licences to be pre-ordered in order to save money but at the moment we are trying to discourage the idea just in case the operating system is a complete failure, plus we still stick to the principle that you should not move over to an operating system until it is service packed, otherwise you are just being Mr Gates guinea pig.
Is there anyone out there that uses Linux as their primary OS? if so I would love to hear your feedback and whether it is a serious alternative to Windows and OSX.
