Is the new Google Operating system going to change things?

Now that Google has announced a new operating system, will there be a shift in power??

So far, Google has a very good track record when it comes to creating products; obviously they are the number one search engine in the world. Secondly, they have produced a fantastic search engine browser in the shape of Google chrome, and in my opinion it is sad that it really hasn’t taken off like it should have done, but it is part of the bigger picture.

Thirdly, their android mobile phone software is a fantastic open source alternative to apples iPhone software. It really is a slick interface that is mightily impressive as anyone who has used it can confirm.

So all of the above bodes well for a new operating system. According to the Google blog, the OS will be released next year in the form of a netbook os which is based on a UNIX platform but after that nothing has been confirmed. One thing is for sure, if Google are serious about supplying an alternative to Windows, then they will need to invest a lot of time and effort into supplying a decent alternative.

Microsoft has become a monopoly and people are starting to tire of them and their bloatware that has taken over the world. The IT Support Company I work for has many clients that would love an alternative to the overpriced, underdeveloped excuse that was Vista and I second their opinion.

Let’s hope that the financial might of Google can get all the hardware companies onside. Let’s hope they can break the monopoly and put some real competition on the high street.

I’m a Windows OS, get me out of here!!!

So is the end nigh for windows as we know it? Or are well all going to carry on following the sheep and using the operating system from hell?

Google recently announced that they are to create their own operating system; this surly must be a frightening thought for the big wigs at Microsoft who will really feel the pinch if Google pull off the impossible and bring out a serious alternative to Windows.
And not before time too, Windows is overrated and flawed, yet most of the world’s population have carried on using it for over 13 years. We need a mainstream alternative and hopefully Google will have the answer.

I mean that with the greatest respect to Linux and OSX, both are cracking platforms but they have never caught on as a serious alternative to Windows, this is especially a shame in the case of Leopard as it is a fine OS with very few flaws and a joy to use.

Google say that the new operating system will be launched as a Netbook OS first, which indicates there is more to follow. Google have named the OS “Google Chrome OS” and the good news is that t will be open sourced, which also means it will be free!! (hopefully). Google are actively encouraging open source developers to help them with the new OS, which will be “lightweight with no need to worry about viruses or updates” The developers are certainly indicating that this OS will start to push people towards cloud computing and to quote the Google blog “For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favourite web technologies”.

So exciting times are ahead for the computer industry, maybe one day us techies will be able to throw away our Microsoft handbooks and start to learn about the “almighty Google OS”. We can only live in hope.

The world thrives on competition, and too date Microsoft hasn’t had enough, hopefully we are about to see a true alternative to Windows.

Resouces.
IT Support company I work for. We are all quite excited about the thought of a new operating system to get our hands on!

Google Blog, more information on the project.
